What is the FUE method?
In the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method, hair root groups are individually separated and then extracted from the crown of the head with the help of a hollow needle (approximately 0.65 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter). This technique requires shaving the extraction area to about 1 mm. For smaller graft quantities (under 800 grafts), only thin strips are shaved, and the surrounding hair can conceal the extraction area. To prevent excessive thinning of the crown, no more than 10-17 follicular units per square centimeter should be removed. Therefore, for a higher number of grafts, larger areas must be shaved, usually the entire crown. Due to the minimally invasive technique, there is no significant bleeding. Since 2015, the individual extraction of follicular units can also be performed with the ARTAS® robot. An experienced physician can individually extract up to 3000 follicular units per day, depending on the patient’s hair density and skin condition.
How is hair transplantation performed?
On the day of the treatment, the patient’s scalp is first locally anesthetized. You can then lie on a bed and listen to music or read. The entire hair transplantation procedure takes several hours.
We take donor hair from the back of your head. On the one hand, this is hardly noticeable. Furthermore, the hair in this area of the scalp is usually immune to hereditary hair loss. We then transplant the precisely counted amount of hair into the required areas: in the receding hairline, the crown of the head, in areas with thinning hair, or in the patient’s thinning part. Once grown, the donor hair is usually indistinguishable from the rest of the hair on the head.

Technique: FUE or FUT?
- In FUE, individual hair follicle bundles (grafts), usually consisting of two to three hairs along with their roots, are gently removed from the back of the head with a hollow needle.
- After thorough examination and preparation, we transplant the donor hair into the balding areas.

With hair transplantation via FUE, up to 3600 grafts can be transplanted. The number of grafts required, of course, also affects the price of the treatment. If more hair is needed, the procedure can be repeated the next day or at a later time.
For your hair transplantation in Hamburg, we can also use the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method. FUT is even more productive in terms of quantity: several thousand grafts can be transplanted simultaneously with this method. In the FUT method, we remove an entire strip of scalp from the back of the head. We then separate the hairs from it. The transplantation of the hair follicles is performed in the same way as with FUE. We will also inform you about the price of the procedure during the consultation.
