Thread Lift
Thread Lift in Hamburg
HOW DOES A THREAD LIFT WORK?
For a thread lift, our doctors use ultra-thin threads made of polydioxanone. These threads have long been established in surgery and have been extensively tested. They are absorbable, which means they are gradually broken down by the body over time. To tighten sagging areas of the skin, we use two different types of PDO threads.
Lifting Threads
The so-called lifting threads feature small cones or tiny hooks at regular intervals. These later lift the sagging facial tissue, creating a fresher and more youthful appearance without altering the patient’s natural facial features.
Structure Threads
Structure threads, on the other hand, do not have cones. They are ideal for improving the overall skin texture, softening fine lines, and restoring volume to certain areas of the face. In the weeks and months following the treatment, new connective tissue and collagen form around the threads. As a result, the effect of the thread lift remains visible even after the body has already absorbed the threads.

HOW THE THREAD LIFT PROCEDURE WORKS
At the beginning of the procedure, the treatment area is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. The doctor then applies a numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. The threads are then inserted into the skin using a fine needle. A major surgical procedure is not required for a thread lift.
Depending on the indication, the threads are inserted at different points of the face. A thread lift requires extensive experience and expert knowledge of the interaction between facial muscles and skin. Only in this way can a natural-looking result be achieved. In many cases, it is beneficial to combine lifting threads and structure threads, for example to lift the cheek area while also restoring volume at the same time. This allows a variety of aesthetic concerns to be treated in a single session.
In many cases, thread lifting can also be combined with other aesthetic medicine treatments. At our practice, we offer the following procedures for wrinkle treatment and skin rejuvenation:
- Fillers (such as hyaluronic acid)
- PRP - Vampire Lift
- Microneedling

AFTERCARE FOLLOWING A THREAD LIFT
After a thread lift, the treated area often feels slightly warm. Minor swelling or bruising may also occur, but these usually disappear after two to three days with regular cooling. Cleanse your face only very gently and avoid facial treatments or massages in the treated area. If the lifted skin is subjected to too much strain during the first few days, it may detach from the small cones, which could compromise the result of the treatment.
You can resume physical activities after approximately 5 days. Sauna visits are possible again after 2 weeks. Please also make sure to apply sun protection regularly.
RESULTS & LONGEVITY OF A THREAD LIFT
It usually takes six to eight weeks for the final result of a thread lift to become visible. This is the time the body needs to begin building new collagen. Depending on the area of skin treated, an initial effect may appear somewhat earlier. Over the following 4 months, the lifting effect continues to improve, as the body significantly stimulates collagen production around the threads during this period.
The threads are completely broken down by the body within the following 12 to 18 months. However, the newly formed connective tissue can maintain the result of the thread lift for up to 3 years in the best case. A repeat treatment at our practice in Hamburg is then usually possible without any problems.
