SYMPTOMS OF VARICOSE VEINS
In some cases, varicose veins may occur without pain. However, many patients find their clearly visible appearance very disturbing from an aesthetic point of view. Nevertheless, the development of unattractive, protruding blue varicose veins is sooner or later often accompanied by health problems.
At night, affected patients often suffer from calf cramps, which are usually associated with severe pain. Poor blood circulation also means that the skin in these areas is not supplied with sufficient nutrients. This may become noticeable through unpleasant itching in the affected area.
Depending on the severity of the venous condition, painful inflammation of the veins may also occur. Due to the poor supply of nutrients and oxygen to the tissue and skin, dark discoloration may develop, mainly around the ankle and lower leg. In the worst case, this can lead to a lower leg ulcer, commonly known as an “open leg.” This condition is very painful, and the healing process can take many years.
